- Walk with a friend if you can.

- Don’t be distracted by your cellphone, keep your head up and your eyes on your surroundings.
- Make sure to look both ways and wait for traffic before crossing the street, and always use crosswalks.
- Always use sidewalks and shoulders along highways. When there are none, always walk on the LEFT side of the street.
- Biking

- If you ride on the street, keep to the right and follow all traffic signs.
- Be on the lookout for traffic, yield to vehicles, and signal when turning.
- Use the crosswalks and yield to pedestrians. If you have to cross at an intersection, look both ways and walk your bike to the other side.
- Stay alert and watch out for hazards.
- When you park your bike, make sure you lock it up.
- Bus
- Be aware of your surroundings. Don’t talk to or take rides from strangers. If a stranger approaches you, tell an adult!
- Make sure to stay away from the street curb as the bus arrives. Wait until the bus comes to a complete stop before you get on one at a time.
- Use the hand rails to get on and off the bus, being careful that any loose clothing does not get snagged on anything.
- Stay seated while on the bus. Raise your hand if you need to speak to the bus driver. Buckle your seat belt if one is provided.
- When exiting, do not walk behind the bus. If you need to cross the street, make eye contact with the bus driver and stay beyond the safety arm at the front of the bus. Be sure and look both ways before crossing the street, as well as when walking past the bus and into open lanes of traffic.
